The centrepiece of the exhibition is a rare painting by Ivan Aivazovsky from the collection of the Art Museum of Estonia. The newly-restored work of art has been placed amongst seascapes from Russian, Latvian and Estonian collections, which together give an overview of the oeuvre of Russia’s best-known marine painter.
The Kadriorg palace and park ensemble celebrates its 300th anniversary with an exhibition focussing on people: rulers, holiday-makers, authors, painters and men about town. The objects on display – historical costumes, works of art, documents and much more – come from the State Hermitage Museum, Alexandre Vassiliev Foundation and several museums in Estonia and Latvia.

The exhibition that launches the centennial of the Art Museum of Estonia gives us a new angle on the oeuvres of the first two professional Estonian artists. Köler’s paintings and Weizenberg’s sculptures are the starting point of Estonian art; the story of their exposition reflects the more significant developments in the history of the Art Museum of Estonia.
