Kadriorg 305 Anniversary Concert The Enchanting Baroque Dance show

On the evening of 22 July, the hall of the Kadriorg Palace will be filled with baroque music and buoyant dance to celebrate the 305th anniversary of the palace and park. The baroque dance group Arte Movimento and the early music studio Cantores Vagantes will be giving a concert entitled The Enchanting Baroque Dance.

The dance show embraces the entire richness of baroque dance. French baroque dance is historically associated with King Louis XIV, “the king who danced”. The period is characterised by a diversity of dances: the decorous and festive courante, the emotional and detailed saraband, the theatrical chaconne, the light and uptempo gigue, the fast minuet and the even faster upbeat passepied. During the show, dancers will emerge in front of the viewers in the same way as Louis XIV’s courtiers emerged in front of their king at his nightly dances. The show includes music by several French composers: Jean-Féry Rebel, Francois Couperin, Charles (Francois) Dieupart et al. The choreography has been devised by Kristine Esko, together with the members of the dance group.

The early music studio Cantores Vagantes was founded in 1989. Among its members are musicians who wish to play early music on replicas of original musical instruments and adhere to the historical practices of playing them.

The following musicians will be performing at the concert:
Reet Sukk: baroque flute and recorder
Taavi-Mats Utt: recorders
Reinut Tepp: harpsichord
Egmont Välja: cello

The Arte Movimento dance school was founded in 2006 on the initiative of Kristine Esko. Various dances from different periods in European cultural history can be learnt at the dance school. By 2021, a baroque dance group had evolved at the school, and they will be performing in Kadriorg on 22 July

The following dancers will be performing at the concert: Margit Maalmeister, Teele Raue, Marii Tunnel, Anni Nurmsalu, Aasa Nurmsalu, Joonatan Liivamägi and Simeon Liivamägi.

Tickets: 12 € from the online ticket offices Piletilevi and Fienta and at the museum’s ticket sales desk.
